Picture this: You’ve been sitting under the sun for the past few hours, watching your cousin’s boyfriend’s brother or someone or other get married (Bizarre, I know!). The sun has been beating down on you, your dress or shirt is stuck to your back with sweat, and the child next to you has been screaming in your ear for the past hour. After what seems like an eternity, you are finally directed to go into the venue for the reception. And what is the main thing you are looking forward to when you walk into the venue for the reception? THE FOOD!
That’s right! We ALL love the food at weddings! (Even your photographers!) But there are some things to keep in mind when it comes to having a photographer at your wedding, like making sure to feed your photographers!
1. Make Sure You Feed Your Photographers and Other Vendors
You might be reading this and thinking to yourself, “Do I have to feed my photographers at my wedding?” To be frank, YES!!!
For some, this might be a no-brainer! We’ve been to many weddings where they have made us feel just as comfortable as any other guest. But we’d be lying if we said we have been to a few weddings where, come dinner time at the reception, the bride and groom are left staring at us like they just forgot to pickup their kids from school or something. Make sure you’re keeping your wedding photographers and/or any other vendors who will be at your wedding in mind when it comes to food! Photographers get hangry too!
When we attend your wedding, we are doing just that: attending your wedding. We’re not “working” your wedding or simply “shooting” your wedding! We are there as guests who are part of the entire experience: the laughs, the tears, the arguments. We’re there for it all!
Additionally, we are with you at your wedding ALL DAY! It’s simply common courtesy to feed your photographers after they just spent the day with you. And that courtesy doesn’t just stop at your photographers! For example: if your hair stylist is hired to stay on all day for touch-ups, make sure you take that into account when you’re ordering your food!
2. Leave A Spot For Your Photographers to Sit
Along with making sure you feed your photographers and other vendors, it’s important to leave a spot for them to sit. You do not know how nice it feels to go to sit down at dinner and have your name on a place card. That level of recognition is so rewarding and serves as a reminder that we are a respected guest at your wedding!
Many of you might not know what it’s like to be on your feet for 8+ hours to take pictures. Especially in the summer heat, it can be exhausting! We do our best to bring snacks for ourselves during the day but when we shoot a wedding, we usually don’t get to sit down or eat until dinner. Dinner serves as our one and only break!
When we shoot a wedding, we like to sit down and eat at the same time as our couple. We don’t like to take pictures while our couple eats because let’s be real, there isn’t always a flattering way to eat. Of course, we get shots when speeches are being made and pictures of guests during the reception. But we like to allow ourselves a little bit of a break when our couples are eating. That way, we are off our feet AND we get to try all of the amazing food that you put so much work into having at your wedding!
3. Set Aside Time For Photos After Dinner
If you’re having a photographer at your wedding, we highly recommend you set aside some time after dinner for photos! This gives us some time to get photos away from all the craziness of the day. We love building deep personal connections with every one of our couples and this time after dinner is a great time for us to connect with you on that deeper level that we strive for!
So many of our favorite (and best) photos come from this little period of time after dinner! We are always performing at our utmost capability but after dinner, we’ve got that little extra pep in our step that comes from having a full stomach and some time to rest.
Additionally, this period after dinner often aligns with sunset. And if you know anything about our style, it’s that we love a good ol’ golden hour! This time makes for the best pictures and they always make it into our favorites from your gallery!
